Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel

Picture
As mentioned on the previous page, a huge crowd descended on the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel so we followed and stood around to see what was going to take place. Well the wait was certainly worth it. At night the Parroquia is lit up with normal flood lights which are spectacular enough however the light show that was about to take place had to be seen to be believed.

Basically, they used the fascade of the Parroquia as a huge projection screen and commenced displaying images onto the Parroquia. To put some context into the light show, 4 September 2010 is the bicentennial of the independence of Mexico. Basically when the insurgents overcame the Spanish and claimed back Mexico for the Mexicans.

The light show then depicted a mix between the strong Catholicism that exists within the Mexican culture, followed by the struggle between the Insurgents and the Mexicans culminating in the final victory and the independence of Mexico. The light show was accompanied by a musical score that had the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. It was very easy to get caught up in the emotion of the show and to feel the strong pride that one has for their home nation.

Below are a set of photo's from start to finish. Given that it was at night, dark and some of the images were moving, some photo's are slightly blurry however hopefully you will get a feel for the different colours and images that were displayed. For the Catholics among you, photo 4 will be of some interest to see what images you can identify.
