Fiji Day 2
Day 2 was certainly a much better day than Day 1. After a great night sleep,we all jumped out of bed ready for a great day in paradise and a big breakfast.
We booked ourselves on a jetboat river cruise into the highlands of Fiji for 4/3 so watch out for stories and pictures.
After a great breakfast we all hit the pool (and enjoyed a relaxing swim before heading off for a bite to eat for lunch. Post lunch Talia had her hair braided so Jacqui, Zac and I went snorkelling. It is amazing the number of fish that swim within 3 metres of the shoreline.
After snorkelling for around 300 metres we stopped for a break when what we summised to be a garfish came skimming across the top of the water - literally bouncing on top - straight past Jacqui and Zac, took 3 more skips then disappeared into the water. Next thing, Zac is crying in pain. A quick look at his back showed 3 puncture wounds - see below for photo. The fish had clipped him on the way through. We then had to take him back to shore for some ice and antiseptic as the wounds started to swell.
He was tough though and after recovering he jumped straight back into the water and started snrkelling again. On this journey we saw some big Giant Trevallis as well as a Moray Eel. That freaked us both out a bit so we headed back to shore where Talia was waiting with her hair beautifully braided.
After a small swim out to a pontoon, we dried off and made our way to a bar for cocktails in front of a glorious sunset. This was followed by dinner and the kids doing some disco dancing and competing in a hula hoop contest. Talia came first and ZAc second - we have great kids.
So tomorrow brings us a river cruise to a Fijian village to experience the culture and some kava, then back for a swim before partaking on a sunset cruise.
It is tough being on holidays.
Until then...
