Day 24 - Playing Paparazzi
Today's mission was simple: Harrod's and Madame Tussauds. We all started very slowly this morning so not sure whether we are starting to feel the pinch from all the travels to date or if the 5 hour difference between New York and London is playing tricks on us. Somehow I feel it is a mixture of both. It is a challenge between seeing everything that there is to be seen versus having enough energy to keep going. So far, so good however I think we still need to manage ourselves carefully.
After a bite to eat for breakfast we headed to Victoria station and made our way out to South Kensington which is the closest stop to Harrod's. The underground and rail system is extremely simple to use making it easy to get from place to place with minimal hassle. We journeyed into Harrod's and made our way through the store and up the Egyptian escalators. They are purported as being the first escalators installed in a department store in the world. Having taken a look around and talking Talia and Jacqui out of purchasing horse equipment such as whips and riding boots we made our way to the Lower Ground Floor where a Princess Di and Dodi Fayed memorial has been set up.
We then made our way to the obligatory souvenir shop to make some purchases to show evidence of our shopping spree (some of you may have to wait until Christmas for your surprises....).
After shopping we then had a bite for lunch prior to hailing a Black Cab for our first London Cabbie ride. The cars are really cool as when you hop in there appears to be only enough seats for 2 however there are 2 drop down seats that face towards the back window so it felt like a small limousine ride. We decided that taking the cab to Madame Tussauds would be easier than taking the 2 trains.
At Madame Tussauds I felt like the paparazzi chasing around Talia, Zac and Jacqui as they spotted celebrity after celebrity and I was taking photo after photo after photo. It was amazing how life like the wax models are and at times you did feel that they were looking directly at you. At one stage, Jacqui lined up to get a photo with Will Smith however a person was there taking a photo so we all stood back and waited. It was only when this person wobbled back and forth after someone knocked them that we realised the photographer was also made of wax and we were waiting for nothing.
All the big celebrities were there such as Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Robert Pattinson (twilight fame), George Clooney, Michael Jackson, Kylie Minogue, the Royal family and so on. It took a couple of hours to wander around before we finished up attending a super heroes 4D adventure. As like the other 4D adventures we have seen, this also included the nudge in the back, the water spraying in the face and plenty of wind blowing across our faces. It was very good and had you jumping from your seat and not wanting to put your legs down in case something touched or brushed them.
After taking plenty of shots, we then decided it was time to head back to the flat where again we were spoiled with spaghetti bolognese and strawberry cheesecake. The evening is being spent relaxing and playing some PS3.
Tomorrow we are attending the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge and Trafalgar Square before heading out for a night on the town.
